The Vancouver Canadians were doubled up by the Spokane Indians 10-5 at Avista Stadium on Friday.

After a rain delay pushed the start time to 7:05 p.m., the C’s scored first in this one against Spokane starter Jaden Hill in the top of the first inning. Josh Kasevich singled to right field with one out and walks by Cade Doughty and Rainer Nuñez loaded the bases. Gabby Martinez was plunked by a 3-2 pitch to bring in Kasevich and a Garrett Spain 4-6 fielder’s choice scored Doughty to put Vancouver in front 2-0.C’s Recap – Spokane Pulls Away Late to Hand Canadians Another Loss

Rafael Sanchez struck out Jordan Beck to complete a 1-2-3 first inning but gave up a one-out single to center to Braxton Fulford in the second. A wild pitch, a single to center by Zach Kokoska and a base hit to right by Juan Guerrero brought Fulford around to score Spokane’s first run. The home side made a bid for the tying run when Sems singled to right but Devonte Brown threw out Kokoska trying to score as Jommer Hernández made the tag at the plate to keep Vancouver’s lead.

The C’s only managed a two-out double by Alan Roden in the second inning before going down in order in the third before Spokane evened things up in the bottom of the frame. Adael Amador singled to center and went to third on a Benny Montgomery base hit to right. Jordan Beck produced a sacrifice fly to left to bring in Amador with the tying run. Hernández threw out Montgomery trying to steal second to keep the game tied.

Spokane took the lead for good in the fourth when Kokoska lined a one-out single to right and stole second. Juan Guerrero walked before Ben Sems doubled to center to score Koskosa and a sacrifice fly to right by Nic Kent scored Guerrero to put Spokane ahead 4-2.

Naswell Paulino took over for Sanchez in the bottom of the fifth and stranded a Montgomery lead-off single to center and a one-out Yanquiel Fernández base hit to right. Paulino ran into more trouble in the sixth when Guerrero singled to left and went to third on a Kent single to center that Estiven Machado could not handle at second. An Amador sac fly to center allowed Fernandez to score the fifth Spokane run. Matt Svanson was greeted by a single to center by Montgomery before retiring Beck on a fly ball to right.

The C’s offence was subdued as Hill and Keegan James combined to set down 13 hitters in a row before Spain doubled to center off James to begin the seventh. Spain went to third on a Devonte Brown single to center and came home when Hernández grounded into a 1-4-3 double play to make it a 5-3 game. Machado singled to center to force James’ exit from the game but Bryant McGovern got Roden to fly out to center.

Svanson struck out the side swinging by sitting down Fernandez, Fulton and Kokoska to complete the bottom of the seventh.

The C’s tried to mount a two-out rally when Doughty walked and Martinez singled to left. They both moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch before McGovern struck out Spain swinging.

Braden Scott replaced Svanson to work the eighth inning and gave up a Guerrero leadoff double to right. After Sems struck out swinging, Kent walked and a ground out to third by Amador moved Guerrero and Kent up a base. An infield single to short by Beck scored Guerrero before Fernandez smoked a grand slam to make one lucky fan in attendance $10,000 richer to make it 10-3 Spokane. Scott struck out Fulford and Sam Ryan needed one pitch to get Kokoska on a fly ball to center.

A Devonte Brown base hit to left off Juan Mejia began the top of the ninth for Vancouver. A wild pitch and a Hernández double to right brought in Brown with the C’s fourth run. Hernández made it to third on a Machado ground out to second before scoring on a Roden base hit to left for the game’s final run.
