The Vancouver Canadians got back in the win column with an 8-0 drubbing of the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday night at Nat Bailey Stadium.
With the win, the Canadians are now in first place in the Northwest League with a 26-21 record and a one-game lead over the Spokane Indians (25-22). The first half of the season wraps June 22nd.
The Canadians and Emeralds have hit the halfway point in their six-game set with today’s game a 1:05 start at Nat Bailey Stadium with the gates opening at Noon.
Wallaces’ Strong Pitching Performance A big Part Of The Win
The Cs pitching, highlighted by Chad Dallas, Trenton Wallace and Devereaux Harrison has had a lock on Pitcher of the Week Honours over the last half of May within the Northwest League with all three hurlers getting the nod.
Last night it was Wallace who did start the game allowing consecutive singles before setting down 12 straight and taking the team into the 5th inning.
Wallace’s work held the Emeralds long enough so that the Canadian’s bats could awaken from their slumber to start the 4th. He finished with six innings, no runs and two hits.
Cs Bats Use Five Run Fourth To Propel Team To Victory
Peyton Williams took Eugene pitcher Eric Silva deep to start the inning but it was Garrett Spain who added more damage with a two-run blast off of Silva and Estiven Machado with a run-scoring single.
The hit parade continued with Josh Kasevich’s RBI in the 5th after Vancouver batters had three straight singles.
The start of the 7th inning saw Alex De Jesus launch a triple and Garrett Spain’s RBI single allowed De Jesus to score.
Not to be outdone by the offence, C’s relief pitchers Eric Pardinho and Conor Larkin had the Emerald’s offence shooting blanks and they preserved the great outing by Wallace and the work of Spain, Williams, and De Jesus.
C-Notes
Spain and De Jesus both had three hits on the night. Kasevich had two hits and a walk. Rafael Sanchez takes to the bump for the C’s for today’s game against Eugene which has a 1:05 starts also on Saturday and Sunday to conclude the series.
Wallace is now 5-2 on the year with a 1.79ERA in 40 innings pitched as well as 47 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.82.
Emeralds starter Eric Silva is 1-1 with a 3.82 ERA in 37 innings pitched to go along with 39 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.30.
Today is also Lou Gehrig Day — increasing awareness of ALS disease. See below for a message from former C’s Pitcher Chad 🧀 Dallas whose father Tony was diagnosed in 2019.
