With the 2-1 loss on Friday to the Eugene Emeralds, the Vancouver Canadians were hoping to take the series lead but came up short in a 5-3 loss at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday.
Eugene and Vancouver play their final game today at 1:05pm with Devereaux Harrison on the mound. Harrison was taken by the parent club Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 as a ninth-round pick, 278th overall.
C’s Couldn’t Get Out of Early Deficits.
Vancouver did themselves no favours in this game allowing single runs in the top of the first and the second.
Eugene would add another in the top of the 4th before the C’s would break Emeralds pitcher Nick Sinacola’s shutout bid. Sinacola was perfect from innings one to three.
Alan Roden got things started with a double. Garrett Spain grounded out and that moved Roden to third. Roden scored on a single from Cade Doughty.
Emeralds Strike Back Quickly in the 5th.
The Emeralds wouldn’t give the Canadians anything else this game as they immediately made it 5-1 with two runs in the top of the 5th.
Three straight singles, and sac fly were all that the Emeralds would need to take this one.
Vancouver did make an effort to chip this lead down with single runs in the sixth and eight innings.
Cade Doughty put the offence on his back and was a factor in the sixth with his RBI ground out that score a run.
Roden was in on the act too as he stole second after getting on base with a single. Doughty ripped his 9th double of the season to score Roden but that was all the offence Vancouver could find in the eight inning.
C’s Notes
Cade Doughty finished the game with two hits, a double and three RBI’s.
