The Vancouver Canadians looked every bit the part of wanting revenge today as they exploded for five runs in two innings to get the series split with the Eugene Emeralds on the back of a 7-3 win at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Devereaux Harrison threw a strong six innings allowing one run on four hits to get the win.
C’s Led 5-0 by end of second inning.
The bottom of the first was all Vancouver really needed as they put four runs on the board. It was a fun half inning to watch.
It was Alex De Jesus whose two-out triple, a league-leading fifth, scored Peyton Williams and Cade Doughty. Those two runs that got the inning going for the Cs but the icing on the cake was Gabby Martinez’s two-run homer scoring De Jesus. That got the sold-out Rogers Field crowd on their feet.
The second inning saw more activity by Vancouver at the plate as Alan Roden’s hit scored an unearned run in the second and Michael Turconi’s sacrifice fly in the fourth put the Canadians in front 6-0,
Turconi also had a two out single to make it 7-1 C’s in the bottom half of the seventh inning but the C’s stranded two.
Emeralds Use Four Pitchers, Mikulski Gets Rocked
The Emeralds pitcher, Matt Mikulski, was roughed up by the Canadians for five in the two innings as we mentioned and also threw a pair of pick off attempts to first that were wild and allowed C’s runners to advance into scoring position.
The Emeralds used Seth Lonsway, Joe Kemlage, and Ty Weber in addition to starter Mikulski. It was Mikulski who took the brunt of the damage from Vancouver’s offence.
Vancouver had six strong innings from Harrison, Eric Pardinho in for Cs for the seventh and eighth, and Naswell Paulino to close things out in the 9th and get the win.
Pardinho was the one who gave up the two-run homer to Eugene’s Grant McCray to make it 7-3 Vancouver.
C’s Notes
Michael Turconi finished the game with one run scored, three hits and two RBI’s. He has a .326 average to go with a .928 OPS on the season so far.
Gabby Martinez had two runs, two hits and two RBI’s in this game and Alan Roden and Josh Kasevich finished with two hits apiece.
The Canadians move to 27-23 with the win and have a one-game lead on the Spokane Chiefs. Spokane drops to 26-24 with their loss today to the Tri-City Dust Devils.
They start a six game set in Everett, Washington against the AquaSox tomorrow.
