The Vancouver Canadians lost 8-6 to the Eugene Emeralds at P.K. Park on Friday.

The Emeralds rallied from a two-run deficit with a four-run eighth against Canadians reliever Johnathan Lavallee. A Matt Higgins double to right and a Jack Payton single to right scored pinch-runner Alexander Suarez to bring the Em’s to within a run at 6-5. A one-out base hit to right by Justin Bench moved pinch-runner Justin Wishkoski to third. That set the stage for Andrew Kachel and he cracked a three-run homer to right for the winning margin.
The Emeralds got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first against C’s starter Geison Urbaez. He plunked Diego Velasquez above the right foot to begin the game. A wild pitch and pickoff error by Urbaez moved Velasquez around the bases before Zach Morgan delivered a two-out RBI single to center.
The C’s tied it in the second as Nick Goodwin came in to score after being hit in the left foot by Hayden Wynja to start the frame. Jeff Wehler singled to left and Jackson Hornung doubled to left drive in Goodwin with the tying run. Brennan Orf reached base on a fielding error by Quinn McDaniel at second to load the bases. With the infield in, Wehler held his ground at third. The C’s would leave them loaded on a Dylan Rock strikeout looking and an Estiven Machado room-service 6-4-3 double play.
Vancouver would grab the lead in the third when Dasan Brown singled to center, stole second base with one out and came in to score on a two-out base to right by Goodwin.
Eugene would load the bags against Urbaez with nobody out in the third and would regain the lead. An Kachel double to left, a Velasquez single to center and a McDaniel walk set up a Scott Bandura sacrifice fly to center to score Kachel. Brown’s throw from shallow center was airmailed and a throwing error by Urbaez trying to get Velasquez at third allowed him to cross the plate to put the Emeralds ahead 3-2.
The Em’s filled the bases with one away in the sixth against Vancouver reliever Josh Mollerus. The former Oregon Duck yielded a Higgins single to center, a Payton base hit to left and a Thomas Gavello free pass led to a Bench infield single to short to score Higgins.
The Canadians pulled ahead in the seventh against Em’s reliever Daniel Blair. Base knocks to center by Brown and Ryan McCarty was followed by a single to right by Jace Bohrofen to score Brown. Goodwin brought home McCarty on a 1-6 fielder’s choice to even the score at 4-4. Wehler then walloped a two-run homer to left field to put the C’s in front 6-4.
