The Vancouver Canadians thumped the Eugene Emeralds 9-4 at P.K. Park on Wednesday.

The C’s scratched out a first-inning run against Wilkema Castillo. Dasan Brown lifted a fly ball to left field that Matt Higgins had trouble picking up because of the intense sunlight and wound up dropping the ball, resulting in a two-base error. Brown stole third base with one out and then scored on a wild pitch.
The Emeralds fought back by getting to Pat Gallagher for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Jonah Cox singled to center field, advanced to second on a Diego Velasquez 2-3 sacrifice bunt, swiped third and scored on a Bryce Eldridge sacrifice fly to left. Rodolfo Nolasco then swatted a home run to right to put Eugene ahead 2-1.
Vancouver did not waste much time getting the lead back as Robert Brooks and Dylan Rock took Castillo back-to-back over the right-center field fence to begin the top of the second inning. Jean Arnaez singled to left and Brown got a one-out base knock to center. The two runners moved up on a Jace Bohrofen fly out to the edge of the warning track in center. Peyton Williams singled to right to score Arnaez and Jackson Hornung hit an 0-2 pitch down the left field line to drive in Brown and Williams. A Castillo wild pitch would score Hornung to put Vancouver up 7-2.
Vancouver scored their eighth run in the third when Arnaez singled to left, got to second on a Castillo wild pitch, stole third on ball four to Marcos De La Rosa and scored on a Brown groundout to second.
The Emeralds scored in the fourth when Quinn McDaniel connected for a one-out home run to left-center field off C’s reliever Carson Pierce.
The Canadians got their final run in the eighth when De La Rosa drew a leadoff walk against Austin Strickland, rambled over to third on a Strickland pickoff attempt that went horribly awry and scored on a Brown sac fly to center.
The Em’s matched that run in the bottom of the eighth off Alex Amalfi. An infield single to third by Tanner O’Tremba combined with a De La Rosa throwing error started the frame. A Cox 2-3 sac bunt and a Velazquez sac fly to left got O’Tremba all the way home.
C-Notes

Pat Gallagher, Carson Pierce and Alex Amalfi split the nine-inning workload evenly with Gallagher giving up two runs while Pierce and Amalfi allowed one. Pierce got the win and Amalfi picked up the save.
Jeff Wehler had an early exit for the second night in a row. He struck out swinging in the second inning and was replaced by De La Rosa as a pinch-hitter one inning later. De La Rosa took over for Wehler at third base and had a perfect night at the plate by going 1-for-1 with two walks. Williams, Hornung, Brooks and Arnaez all had two-hit games.
The C’s continue their series on Thursday against the Emeralds. Connor O’Halloran gets the start for Vancouver in a 6:35 p.m. first pitch from P.K. Park. You can hear the game on CanadiansBaseball.com with Chris Georges. The game is also on MiLB.TV.
The probable starters for the C’s on Friday and Saturday are Juaron Watts-Brown and Rafael Sánchez.
