The Vancouver Canadians lost Tuesday and Wednesday to the Hillsboro Hops by identical 4-2 scores before being embarrassed 13-4 on Thursday at Hillsboro Ballpark.

On Tuesday, Dasan Brown homered to open the scoring in the third inning off Logan Clayton but the Hops scored four times off Pat Gallagher in the bottom of the frame. Peyton Williams tripled and scored on a Nick Goodwin single in the sixth. Alex Amalfi held the Hops down with 3-1/3 shutout innings and seven strikeouts and Aaron Munson struck out four in two scoreless stanzas.

On Wednesday, a Brown infield single to the mound and a Jackson Hornung ground-rule double were cashed in by Williams but that was it for the C’s as the Hops scored the next four, two of them against Jauron Watts-Brown over five innings in which he struck out eight. Conor Larkin fanned two in a scoreless sixth but Kai Peterson suffered the loss in relief. The C’s best chances to score were in the sixth and ninth. José Fernandez made a diving stop on a Wehler grounder to third to strand runners at the corners. In the ninth, Je’Von Ward and Wehher had one-out singles but Dylan Rock hit into a game-ending double play. Vancouver, B.C. native Eli Saul was the winning pitcher for the Hops.

On Thursday, Brown homered off José Castillo, walked and threw out a runner at third base. Goodwin doubled and singled and Wehler had two hits. Connor O’Halloran was roughed up. Rafael Ohashi allowed all three O’Halloran runners to score but soaked up three innings. Naswell Paulino was nicked for two unearned runs in his three-inning stint.

2023 Vancouver Canadians catcher/first baseman Lyle Lin is back with the Hops. He was 1-for-3 with a walk on Thursday.

C's Notes

The pitcher the Toronto Blue Jays acquired from the Texas Rangers for 2024 C’s reliever Josh Mollerus has been called up. Yerry Rodriguez has been summoned from Triple-A Buffalo to help the Blue Jays beleaguered bullpen. If Rodriguez makes an appearance with the Jays over the weekend versus Detroit, it will not be the first time he has pitched on Canadian soil. Rodriguez pitched for the Spokane Indians in 2018 and made one start at Nat Bailey Stadium. It was a really good one as he tossed seven shutout innings and struck out six to get the win on August 17. The more you know!

The C’s begin the back half of this six-game set against Hillsboro on Friday. Lefthander Kendry Rojas gets his turn in the rotation in a 7:05 p.m. start at Hillsboro Ballpark. The game is on CanadiansBaseball.com and MiLB.TV.

Righthander Chris McElvain is done for the season according to the transactions page. The former Vanderbilt hurler has been placed on the full-season injured list. He finishes the season with a 3-3 record and 4.56 earned run average over 11 starts with Vancouver. He struck out 54 batters and walked 21 over 49-1/3 innings. McElvain was acquired for infielder Santiago Espinal near the end of Spring Training.
