The Vancouver Canadians picked up a much-needed 8-5 victory over the Eugene Emeralds at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday.

The first two pitches by C’s starter Ryan Watson were put into play. Aeverson Arteaga singled to right field and James Tibbs III lined out to left. Sabin Ceballos grounded out to third as Nick Goodwin was able to make a bounce throw to first base for the out. That got Arteaga over to second base. Watson could not finish off Charlie Szykowny after getting ahead in the count 0-2. Szykowny lined a 1-2 pitch to center field to score Arteaga with the game’s first run. The inning would end on a nice sliding catch by Brennan Orf in left field off the bat of Onil Perez.
Vancouver fought back with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning against Emeralds starter Dylan Carmouche. Peyton Williams beat out a grounder to third for an infield single on a 0-2 pitch. Jackson Hornung followed with a base knock to left on a 1-2 offering. Je’Von Ward then put Carmouche through the ringer in a 12-pitch at-bat before launching a home run into the seating area of the C’s bullpen behind the left field fence to put Vancouver up 3-1.
The Em’s chipped away in the second inning against Watson. A single to right field by Scott Bandura opened the frame and he stole second base just after Quinn McDaniel struck out swinging. Jack Payton hit an infield single to short that Jay Harry could only make a diving stop on. A Thomas Gavello foul out to left was the second out but Arteaga singled to center to score McDaniel.
Eugene would pull ahead in the third with Ceballos got aboard on a single to short. Watson got Szykowny to fly out to left and Perez struck out looking but Bandura kept the inning going with a double to left-center. That set up a McDaniel base hit to center to cash in Ceballos and Bandura to put the Green Giants up 4-3. Watson got out of the inning by striking out Payton with McDaniel at second base after he swiped the bag.
The Emeralds scored again in the fifth. A McDaniel double to left field that would come in to score when he stole third base and came home on a Jacob Sharp throwing error from behind the plate. Watson whiffed Payton but left the game after Gavello singled to center. Alex Amalfi allowed a two-out single to Tibbs and uncorked a wild pitch but a strikeout of Ceballos ended the inning.
The Canadians made it a one-run game again in the sixth when Adrian Pinto smoked the first pitch of the game from Em’s reliever Trent Harris to left field.
Hornung singled to right with one out but a Ward 6-3 double play ball snuffed out that rally.
Eugene lefty Tommy Kane replaced Harris in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble immediately. Orf short-hopped the wall with a double to center and a walk by Jace Bohrofen combined with a wild pitch put runners on the corners. Kane struck out Pinto and was replaced by Hunter Dula. Bohrofen stole second base before Peyton Williams whacked a 1-2 pitch just foul down the right field line that had home run distance. On the next pitch, Williams kept it fair by doubling to right to drive in Orf and Bohrofen to catapult the Canadians into the lead. Williams was replaced by Marcos De La Rosa at second base. A wild pitch and a double to right by Hornung would send De La Rosa home. Ward hit the C’s fourth double of the inning to right center to bring in Hornung.
De La Rosa remained in the game and went to center field, moving Bohrofen over to right and Ward moving to left. Orf took over at first base for Williams. Bo Bonds worked a clean ninth to save the victory for Amalfi, handling a comebacker off the bat of Tibbs to start a 1-3 putout before retiring Ceballos on a pop-up to Pinto at second to finish the game.
