The Vancouver Canadians are still looking for their first six-game series win of 2025.

C-Notes

Congratulations to Canadians shortstop Arjun Nimmala for winning the Northwest League Player of the Week award. He batted. 360 with two home runs, a double, a triple, six runs batted in and two stolen bases over six games at Eugene. The NWL Player of the Week total for Vancouver is now up to three, without outfielder Victor Arias and utility man Adrian Pinto winning those honours earlier this season.

C's Notes

A uniform number update. Trey Yesavage is wearing number 15, previously worn by outfielder Brennan Orf, who is currently on the injured list. Gage Stanifer is donning number 22, previously worn by outfielder Jacob Wetzel, who is also sidelined with an injury. Khal Stephen has number 27 which was worn earlier by catcher Alex Stone, who is now with Double-A New Hampshire.

Tuesday & Wednesday

The Canadians were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left a season-high 14 men on base on Tuesday, followed by a 1-for-9 effort with six LOB on Wednesday.

Thursday

The Canadians plunked five Emeralds Thursday night, that’s the most hit-by-pitches recorded by a C’s pitching staff in a game since the High-A era began in 2021. Thursday’s loss was the 11th time in 12 games that the team was on the wrong end of a one-run score.

Friday

Five was the number of the night. The C’s broke out for five runs in the fourth and racked up five hits and five walks in total. Unfortunately, none of the hits were for extra bases. James Tibbs III was a one-man wrecking crew for Eugene with two homers and a triple, accounting for (you guessed it!) five RBI from the San Francisco Giants 2024 first-round pick.

Saturday

Baseball is a funny game. Emeralds starter Shane Rademacher came into the game as the Northwest League leader in earned run average and was the NWL Pitcher of the Month in April thanks to back-to-back Pitcher of the Week plaudits, one of them featuring five perfect frames against the host Canadians on April 19. His ERA shot up 80 points to 2.74 after the C’s solved him for five runs in 4-1/3 innings.

Vancouver ended its eight-game losing streak, the longest of its High-A era. The previous mark was six straight setbacks when they lost in Spokane and Hillsboro three times apiece from May 18-23 last season.

Sunday

Eugene right fielder James Tibbs III was injured trying to haul in an Aaron Parker drive that resulted in a tie-breaking, bases-clearing double in the 10th inning. Tibbs was able to continue but then got into a shouting match with center fielder Bo Davidson after a home run by Eddie Micheletti to right-center field.

Trey Yesavage (9), Gage Stanifer (7), Jonathan Todd (2) and Kai Peterson (1) racked up 19 Ks between them on Sunday. That’s the second-most for the team in the High-A era. The record is 20 when Adam Macko (11), Ian Churchill (3), Conor Larkin (5) and Naswell Paulino (1) were punching tickets in a 10-inning win versus Spokane on August 22, 2023.

The team also set a High-A record with seven runs in the 10th, the most ever in an extra inning.

Nick Goodwin merited consideration for the Northwest League Player of the Week. The Overland Park, KS native went 6-for-17 with two home runs, seven runs batted in and four runs scored in four games played at Eugene. Thanks to C’s broadcaster Tyler Zickel for these press note nuggets.

Former C’s catcher Jommer Hernández is playing for the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League and wearing number 19, the same number he wore with Vancouver for 2023 and 2024. He wore number 31 with the C’s in 2022. Hat tip to press box staffer and Field Timing Coordinator Max Langley for the heads-up.

Fernando Perez is the scheduled starter for the series opener and closer on Tuesday and Sunday against the Hillsboro Hops. Khal Stephen is set to make his Nat Bailey Stadium debut on Wednesday and will be followed by Jackson Wentworth on Thursday and TBD (likely Pat Gallagher) on Friday. Trey Yesavage will then pitch for the first time as a pro on Canadian soil on Saturday. Game times are 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and 1:05 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Tyler Zickel and Chris Georges will have the play-by-play on CanadiansBaseball.com and BallySports.com.

Tuesday’s game will feature the South Asian Heritage jerseys the C’s will wear.
