The Vancouver Canadians won four of out six games against the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium.

Of course, one of the losses was of the one-run variety to run their season total to 22. The C’s will see the Dust Devils again at Nat Bailey Stadium for a six-game set on August 19 in the penultimate homestand of the regular season.

C-Notes

Congratulations to Fernando Perez for capturing the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week award for July 28-August 3. The 21-year-old Nicaraguan put up 11 shutout innings against the Dust Devils, tossing a one-hitter and striking out seven in six innings to get the victory. Perez struck out 13 Tri-City hitters and did not issue a walk in his two starts. He has not walked anyone over his last 20 innings. Perez follows Javen Coleman as back-to-back C’s hurlers to win the NWL Pitcher of the Week honours.
The Vancouver Canadians have released its 2026 schedule, and it sucks! The team has to begin and end the first half and the second half on the road. They begin the year with a three-game series at Tri-City on Friday, April 3. before returning for their home opener against the Eugene Emeralds on Tuesday, July 6. That marks the first of 15 home games in April, but it’s almost guaranteed some dates will be lost because of rain. The Canadians do host Eugene again in May, so rained-out games there could be made up in the first half but Tri-City and Spokane are not back in YVR until the second half.
The C’s will end the first half and begin the second half on the road with a six-game set in Spokane in June. Eugene will be the opposition on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1 to begin a stretch of 15 home games in July, which also includes a 4th of July date against the Emeralds. The regular season home finale for Monty’s Mounties will be against Spokane on Sunday, August 30 and the season finale is at Tri-City on Sunday, September 6.
Tuesday
The C’s were 0-for-7 and left seven runners in scoring position. Speaking of the number seven, that was the number of groundouts Fernando Perez recorded with all of his outs in play on the dirt.
Wednesday
Outfielder Eddie Micheletti was pulled from the game in the eighth inning. There was speculation on social media that he was going to be traded but that was not the case.
Thursday
Jackson Wentworth managed to work his way out of trouble in all five innings to get the win. He was helped out by a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Juan Flores to end the second and stranded a pair of one-out singles to left by Flores and Caleb Pendleton by striking out Anthony Scull and getting Capri Ortiz to fly out to left.
Wentworth’s batterymate was Peyton Powell, who chipped in by throwing out Cole Fontenelle at second to erase a one-out walk in the fourth. That was the only time Wentworth faced three batters in an inning. With the bat, Powell drew three walks and scored a run.
There were six hit by pitches in this one with each squad splitting the plunkings evenly. Carter Cunningham, Nick Goodwin and Jay Harry took one for the team. Vancouver pitchers have drilled the fewest amount of hitters in the league with just 51, well shy of Hillsboro’s league-leading 92 HBPs.
Friday
The Canadians were 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on. The closest they came to tying the game was in the fourth inning when Arjun Nimmala singled off Ryan Costieu to drive home Edward Duran but Dust Devils right fielder Randy De Jesus threw out Nick Goodwin to preserve Tri-City’s one-run lead and eventual victory.
Saturday
Jacob Lojewski picked up his first Northwest League hit with a second-inning double, Colby Holcombe collected his first NWL victory with a perfect fifth inning and Jonathan Todd notched his first NWL save by striking out the side.
Eddie Micheletti returned to action after two nights off and had a single and two walks. He scored once but was thrown out at the plate by Randy De Jesus after an Arjun Nimmala two-run double to right.
Sunday
The C’s almost had a second no-hitter at Gesa Stadium in as many seasons. Lazaro Estrada tossed a seven-inning no-no as part of a doubleheader on June 19, 2024, and the trio of Fernando Perez, Yondrei Rojas and Kai Peterson came close to a combined zero in the hit column. Juan Flores blooped a single to right with two outs from Perez in the fifth inning for the Dust Devils only hit.
Vancouver had just one hit with a runner in scoring position in eight tries and left eight men on base but Eddie Micheletti‘s two-run double in the third was all that was needed for the win.

Two more former C’s were moved the at the MLB Trade Deadline as outfielder Alan Roden (2023) and lefthander Kendry Rojas (2024) were traded to the Minnesota Twins for righthander Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France. Roden made his major league debut with the Jays this season while Rojas was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo recently. All the best to Alan and Kendry in the Twin Cities.
Righthanders Eric Pardinho (2022-2023) and Grayson Thurman (2024) were released by the Blue Jays. Pardinho spent the latter part of May, all of June and the first part of July on the injured list. He spent rehab stints at the Florida Complex League and Dunedin before his release. Pardinho had been with the Jays organization since 2017. Thurman was released after going 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA with two saves in 2513 innings at New Hampshire this year. The 26-year-old from Lynchburg, Virginia did not allow a run in six of his last eight appearances with the Fisher Cats. He had been in the Jays system since signing as a free agent on March 24, 2023.
Righthander Anders Tolhurst (2023-2024) was also let go by the Blue Jays on August 2 to pursue an opportunity with the LG Twins of the KBO League in Korea. The 25-year-old from Santee, California was finding his groove with Buffalo by posting a 1.37 ERA in July, striking out 23 batters and walking only four in 26⅓ innings. Tolhurst will be remembered for getting the win with four innings of two-run ball in the clinching Game 4 of the 2023 Northwest League Championship Series against the Everett AquaSox. The Herd Chronicles chatted with the former Grossmont College product recently.
All the best to Eric, Grayson and Anders in their future endeavours.
