The 2024 Vancouver Canadians will get a dress rehearsal before their Northwest League season opener on April 5.

Before travelling to Spokane to open the regular season, the C’s will host the UBC Thunderbirds at Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday, April 3. The seven-inning contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 and are now on sale at CanadiansBaseball.com.
UBC won the inaugural matchup in 2022 before the C’s took the T-Birds away in 2023. The Thunderbirds are managed by former Vancouver Canadians utility man and colour analyst Chris Pritchett. UBC has a record of 11-8 on the season and will be at home for a four-game series against the College of Idaho at Tourmaline West Stadium on March 8-10.

C-Notes

All the best to 2023 Vancouver Canadians catcher/first baseman Lyle Lin who is back with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. The 26-year-old from Taipei, Taiwan elected free agency back on November 6 and rejoined the D-Backs as a minor league free agent on February 8. Arizona drafted Lin in the 14th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Arizona State. He began his pro career with the Hillsboro Hops and won a Northwest League championship ring in 2019. Lin added to his ring collection as a member of the 2023 champion Vancouver Canadians. He’ll be fondly remembered as starting the rally with a two-out, two-strike bloop single in the infamous Spain GameTM in Everett back on June 7 and for his ninth-inning home run in Hillsboro against his former team in Hillsboro that led to another win on July 8.

Former C’s president Andy Dunn was on the Halford & Brough in the Morning show on Tuesday to discuss why he left the club after 16 years. He says the decision came down to family considerations.
“Something that had been on my mind a little bit, you know, we’ve had great success, We’re coming off a championship. I’ve been going back and forth forever. There’s a new ownership group that has been nothing but wonderful to me, but it came down to the fact that I got some family stuff I need to go handle. You know, we all age, our parents also age, so there’s some things that have been going on there and it was a situation where I just didn’t feel comfortable being gone as much as I was going to be gone. And unfortunately, the timing lined up where it was good. You don’t want to do it, but you know what? It was an easy decision for me to make but I’ve enjoyed every moment in Vancouver.”
Dunn admits he did not expect to remain with the Canadians for 16 seasons.
“I think the reason I stayed as long as I did was I always felt (co-owners) Jake (Jake Kerr) and Jeff (Jeff Mooney) were in it for the right reasons and they were. And we had a tremendous staff and they needed some direction. We needed to baseball up the place, not only the facility but the organization, the staff, the way the business was being operated. And I just got to the point where we just started having fun and watching the franchise grow. And I’ve said that for years. my greatest thrill every day is just watching how much the staff was growing as workers and individuals and baseball and sports executives. And then we were able to do the deal with the Blue Jays, the partnership with the Jays, and just working with (former general manager) Alex (Alex Anthopoulos) and (former president) Paul Beeston and (director of minor league operations) Charlie Wilson. I love the city of Vancouver. The city got behind us and supported everything we did. So it really just became like a home to me.”
Dunn also believes the C’s are in “good hands” with Diamond Baseball Holdings, the current owners of the ball club.
