The Vancouver Canadians downed the Eugene Emeralds 7-4 at P.K. Park on Sunday.

The Canadians put together a one-out rally against Emeralds starter Cesar Perdomo in the top of the second inning with five consecutive hits. Je’Von Ward doubled to left and so did Estiven Machado to score Ward with the game’s first run. Marcos De La Rosa got Machado over to third base with an infield single to third. Dasan Brown doubled down the line in left field to drive in Machado and De La Rosa. Brown raced home on a Jace Bohrofen base hit to left to make it 4-0 Vancouver.
The C’s got back on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Brown led off with a walk and Bohrofen singled to right. A 5-3 double play by Williams forced Brown out at third and led to Austin Strickland taking over on the mound for the Emeralds. Jackson Hornung lined the first pitch he saw from Strickland into left field to score Bohrofen from second. Hornung got to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Nick Goodwin base hit to right, just beating the throw with a feet-first slide.
Eugene broke through against C’s starter Pat Gallagher in the bottom of the fifth. Alexander Suarez hit a swinging bunt up the first base line and Gallagher threw the ball over the head of Williams at first and that resulted in Suarez going all the way to third base. Suarez would then score on a wild pitch.
Vancouver restored its six-run lead against Nick Morreale in the top of the eighth. Peyton Williams put a charge into one over the right field fence to lead off the frame.
The Emeralds did not go away quietly. Matt Higgins led off with a base hit to left and Justin Wishkoski followed with a walk. After falling behind 1-0 to Zach Morgan, C’s reliever Conor Larkin was pulled from the game due to a back injury. Naswell Paulino would walk Morgan to load the bases before a Suarez single to short brought Higgins to make it a 7-2 game. Wade Meckler‘s sacrifice fly to left scored Wishkoski and Eugene loaded the bases again when Diego Velasquez drew a walk. Aaron Munson relieved Paulino and struck out Onil Perez for the second out. A wild pitch scored Morgan but Munson struck out Rodolfo Nolasco looking to end the game.
C-Notes

Gallagher had an early challenge in the first inning when Meckler reached on an infield knock to third to start the bottom of the first inning. Gallagher handled a bunt attempt by Velasquez bunted that got Meckler over to second and a Perez grounder to second advanced Meckler to third. Gallagher would leave Meckler 90 feet away by striking out Nolasco.
After a perfect second inning that began with a called strikeout of McDaniel and a swinging strikeout of Higgins, Gallagher got into a bases-loaded jam in the top of the third. A Suarez 6-4 fielder’s choice eliminated a Morgan leadoff single to left. Suarez stole second and Meckler walked before Gallagher struck out Velasquez for the second out. Perez was hit in the right leg with a pitch to fill the bases but Gallagher got out of it by retiring Nolasco on a fly out to Bohrofen in foul territory in right field.
Gallagher had another perfect stanza in the fourth, much like the second inning as he fanned McDaniel and Higgins again.
Carson Pierce reliever Gallagher in the sixth and had some traffic on the bases. A throwing error by De La Rosa at third allowed Perez to reach base. A one-out single to third by McDaniel got Perez over to third. McDaniel stole second base after Higgins struck out and Pierce would whiff Wishkoski after Hornung completed the putout wiht a throw down to first.
Alex Amalfi also got into trouble in the top of the seventh. Morgan lined a single to left and Meckler had a one-out knock to center but a strikeout of Suarez and a 6-3 double play got Amalfi out of danger. Larkin was perfect in the eighth which he wrapped up by striking out McDaniel.
The C’s were looking to do some damage in the top of the first inning against Perdomo. Brown and Bohrofen opened the game with singles to center and right respectively. They executed a double steal with one out but neither of them would score.
Ward doubled to right in the top of the third with one away but was left in scoring position. Machado singled to center with one out in the fifth and got to third on a De La Rosa double to right but Brown hit into a 5-2-6 fielder’s choice as Machado got caught in a rundown between third and home.
The C’s had a chance to score in the sixth when Williams walked and pinch-hitter Jean Arnaez got him to third when he doubled to left off Tommy Kane with one away. Arnaez came into the game after Goodwin fouled a ball off his left knee. Kane would strand the runners in scoring position.
Brown had an infield single to left with two outs in the seventh against Julio Rodriguez and Ward walked to begin the ninth against Hunter Dula but nothing came out of that.
