The Vancouver Canadians were blanked by the Hillsboro Hops 2-0 at Hillsboro Ballpark on Thursday.

The Hops scored the winning run just three batters into the game. Andrew Pintar tripled to right field off C’s starter Ryan Jennings with one out and scored on a Gavin Conticello base hit that was blooped to left over a drawn-in infield.

Hillsboro added an insurance run against Josh Mollerus without the benefit of a hit in the seventh. Neyfy Castillo was plunked by a pitch, went to second on a Manuel Peña walk, was sacrificed to third base on a José Fernandez bunt and scored on a Gavin Logan sacrifice fly to left.

C's Notes

Jennings allowed just three baserunners in six innings but was tagged with the loss. He retired 13 straight Hops at one point and struck out six without a walk.

Unfortunately for Jennings, Hops lefty Evan Short was better as he set the tone by striking out the side in the first inning. He sat down the first 17 men he faced before Estiven Machado singled to right with two outs. Short left the game after walking Glenn Santiago with two outs in the eighth inning. Listher Sosa got Jean Arnaez to ground out to third end the eighth and that was the last time the C’s put a ball in play. Kyle Amendt ended the game the way it began as he struck out the side swinging to get the save.

The Canadians look to snap a six-game losing skid on Friday as they give Chris McElvain the start. Chris Georges will call the action on CanadiansBaseball.com. The game is also on MiLB.TV. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
