The Vancouver Canadians were hammered by the Eugene Emeralds 15-4 at Nat Bailey Stadium on Sunday.

The Emeralds got to Canadians starter Carson Pierce in the first inning. Scott Bandura walked before Pierce got the next two men, striking out Bryce Eldridge. Pierce fell behind Onil Perez 2-0 before he got a visit from C’s manager Brent Lavallee and trainer Katie Reyes. The righthander appeared to injure his right forearm and was pulled from the game. Alex Amalfi took over on the mound and walked Perez before Charlie Szykowny singled to right, scoring Bandura who beat the throw from right to score the game’s first run.

Eugene scored again in the second off Amalfi. Quinn McDaniel drilled a triple off the wall in center field. Thomas Gavello and Jonah Cox walked and Bandura singled to left to drive McDaniel. A sacrifice fly to left by Sabin Ceballos allowed Gavello to score the third Eugene run. A double steal by Cox and Bandura and a throwing error by Jacob Sharp because neither Adrian Pinto or Cutter Coffey was covering the bag. The ball went into center field and Cox proceeded to cross home plate. An Eldridge sac fly to right scored Bandura to put the Em’s up by five.

The Em’s got to Chay Yeager in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk by Cox came around to score on a Bandura double off the center field wall, just beyond a leaping Jay Harry. Bandura swiped third and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7–0. Eldridge and Perez both walked with Eldridge eventually scoring on a Nolasco two-out single to left.

Eugene kept at it in the fifth against Geison Urbaez. Cox walked with one out, got to second on a Bandura groundout to second and scampered home on a single to left by Ceballos.

The C’s finally solved Whitman in the fifth inning. Coffey got a free pass and scooted home on a Sharp double off the wall in left-center. Harry was hit by a pitch with two outs and Williams walked to send Whitman to the dugout. Cody Tucker came in and got Ward to ground out to second to leave the bases loaded.

Eugene reached double digits on the board when Perez nearly left the yard but his drive to left field off Urbaez bounced off the top of the short left field fence. Perez had to settle for a double but he would get home on another double to right-center by Szykowny.  Nolasco hit into a 6-5 fielder’s choice that resettled in Szykowny being thrown out. A McDaniel single and a two-out knock to left by Cox put the Em’s up by 10. The inning ended mercifully when Pinto made a nice leaping grab at second to take away a hit from Bandura.

The Emeralds scored against Aaron Munson in the eighth. A one-out McDaniel walk and a Gavello single to right scored on a Bandura base knock to center and a Ceballos base rap to left respectively. Munson walked Eldridge to load the bases.  Irv Carter was burned for a two-out single to left by Perez to give Eugene a two-touchdown lead. Carter struck out Szykowny to stop the insanity.

The Canadians finally got some runs in the eighth against Austin Strickland when Williams slammed one over the wall in right field just keeping it fair for a one-out solo shot.

Ward then singled to left and came home on a Brennan Orf two-out two-run homer to right.
