The Vancouver Canadians blanked the Spokane Indians 5-0 at Avista Stadium on Tuesday.

Adrian Pinto punched the second pitch of the game from Spokane starter Victor Juarez over the fence in left-center field to give Vancouver the very early lead. Jackson Hornung hit a two-out double to right to score a Jace Bohrofen one-out base hit to right in the third inning to make it a 2-0 game.

Je’Von Ward led off the eighth inning with a home run to right-center field off Felix Ramires and the C’s added two more in the ninth off Sergio Santos when Pinto doubled to center to drive in a Nic Deschamps leadoff single to right.

Ryan Watson put up seven shutout innings in his first start with the C’s to get the win while Pat Gallagher blanked Spokane for the final two frames for the save. Spokane hit into five double plays in this one.

C's Notes

Vancouver manager Brent Lavallee celebrated a milestone as Tuesday’s victory was his 200th win as the skipper for Monty’s Mounties. The North Delta, B.C. native led the C’s to 67 wins in 2022, 77 in 2023 and 56 this season. This does not include the three wins at the helm when Vancouver won the 2023 Northwest League title against Everett. Lavallee is gunning for a third straight appearance in the league final.

Congratulations to Peyton Williams for winning Northwest League Player of the Week honours for August 5-11. The Johnston, Iowa native had two hits on Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Williams—aka ‘Meat Truck’—batted .458 with three doubles, two home runs, six runs batted in and 22 total bases against Eugene last week.

The second game of this series will see Juaron Watts-Brown on the mound for Vancouver. The first pitch from Avista Stadium is at 6:35 p.m. on Canadians Baseball.com and MiLB.TV

C's Changes Roster Notes

The Vancouver Canadians had a couple of roster moves before the series opener in Spokane. Hamilton, Ontario infielder Bryce Arnold was promoted from Low-A Dunedin and catcher Alex Stone has been activated from the Development List.

When Arnold appears in a game for the C’s, he will have seen action with all of Toronto’s four full-season affiliates. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound righthanded hitter signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent from the Campbell Fighting Camels on July 20, 2023. Dunedin was Arnold’s first stop in 2023 before getting a late-season promotion to Double-A New Hampshire. This season, he has played three games with Triple-A Buffalo but the majority of his time was with Dunedin. The 23-year-old Arnold will wear number 6, vacated by fellow Ontarian, aka the Oakville Flash, outfielder Dasan Brown who is now with New Hampshire.

Stone signed as a free agent with the Jays on July 23 from the Duke Blue Devils. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound backstop has been assigned number 27 with the C’s.
