The Vancouver Canadians blanked the Spokane Indians 6-0 in a 5-1/2 inning contest called due to rain at Avista Stadium on Saturday.

Alan Roden was hit by a pitch from Spokane starter Victor Juarez to begin the game. A single to right field by Andrés Sosa and a wild pitch put runners at second and third. That set up a Rainer Nuñez sacrifice fly to right to score Roden to give the C’s a 1-0 lead. Cade Doughty singled up the middle to score Sosa with Vancouver’s second run. Gabby Martinez walked but was picked off by Juarez at first base. Josh Kasevich also went up the middle with a base knock to score Doughty to put Vancouver up by three. Alex De Jesus also had a base hit to the eight-spot in the outfield before hit into a fielder’s choice at third to end the inning.
Spokane’s first batter of the game was plunked as Amael Amador wore one from Dahian Santos but the C’s hurler retired the side in order.
Anderson Bido was summoned from the Spokane bullpen for the second inning and gave up a double to center by Garrett Spain and a single to center by Roden to put runners at second and third. A groundout to short by Sosa scored Spain before back-to-back doubles by Nuñez to center and Doughty to right scored Roden and Nuñez to up the C’s advantage to 6-0. Martinez drew a walk before the inning ended.
Spokane’s first hit came from Zach Kokoska when he singled to right but he was thrown out attempting a double when Roden’s throw to De Jesus was on the mark for a 9-6 putout. Santos retired the next two hitters, including a strikeout of Ben Sems to end the frame.
Spain doubled to right field for his second double of the day in the top of the third and he stole third base but he was left there when Roden fouled out to third and Sosa grounded out to short.
Santos faced just three men in the top of the fourth. After striking out Nic Kent, Bryant Quijada singled to right but Amador hit into a 3-6-3 inning-ending twin-killing.
The top of the fourth also saw a one-out single erased by a double play as Doughty singled to right but Bido induced a 5-4-3 double play from Martinez to finish the inning.
Santos retired the first two men he faced in the fourth, striking out Beck before giving up a two-out double to left by Yanquiel Fernandez. The next pitch saw Kokoska pop up to third for the third out.
The top of the fifth began with a Kasevich infield single to second but he was doubled off at first after a fly to right by De Jesus to help Bido face the minimum.
In the bottom of the fifth, Santos hit Sems with a pitch before uncorking a wild pitch to move Sems to second. Santos recovered to strike out Kent before getting Quijada to fly out to right to round out five shutout innings.
Bido retired the C’s in order in the top of the sixth before the game was called due to rain.
