Vancouver actually scored first in this one with a run in the bottom of the second inning against Tri-City lefty Houston Harding. Jace Bohrofen bashed a long single off the right field wall and Jackson Hornung singled to left to put runners on the corners with nobody out. A two-out infield single to the mound by Victor Arias brought Bohrofen home to make it 1-0 C’s. Arias stole second base but Marcos De La Rosa struck out to end the rally.

Carson Pierce held down the Dust Devils until there was one out in the fifth. Alberto Rios was hit by a pitch and a bunt by Mac McCroskey was thrown away by De La Rosa at first for a two-base error. Landon Wallace then hit a nubber to the mound but Pierce’s throw went horribly awry as Rios and McCroskey scored to put Tri-City ahead 2-1. C’s catcher Jacob Sharp made a nice sliding catch against the back wall on the third-base side of home plate to retire Joe Redfield for the second out. Alex Amalfi relieved Pierce and got Adrian Placencia to pop out to second.

Everything went to hell in a handbasket for the Canadians in the sixth. Blakely got aboard on an infield single to first that Amalfi could not corral and Sonny DiChiara socked one over the right field wall to make it 4-1 Dust Devils.  Amalfi could not get out of the inning as Chay Yeager entered the game and he yielded a two-run double to left by Wallace to score a Kevin Bruggeman walk and a McCroskey base hit to right to increase the Tri-CIty lead to 6-1.

It got even worse in the seventh as the Dusty Ones put up an eight-spot against Yeager and Aaron Munson, sending 13 hitters to the plate.

Vancouver got two runs back when Arias reached base with one away in the seventh on an error at third by Arol Vera. De La Rosa scored Arias with a two-run dinger to left to make it a 14-3 game.

Tri-City added one more run against Kai Peterson in the ninth.

C's Notes

There were actually some defensive highlights for the Canadians in the early going. A Redfield single to right was cut down on a 2-6 caught stealing started by Sharp to begin the top of the first. Placencia walked and tried his luck to steal second but Nick Goodwin got to tag out another runner from short to end the inning just after Pierce struck out Blakely.

Pierce also faced the minimum in the second with a perfect frame which ended on a Vera strikeout.

A two-out Wallace walk was stranded in the third when Redfield lined out to first. Arias ran down a deep fly ball in the left field corner to take away a hit from McCroskey before the Wallace free pass. The fourth began with a strikeout of Placencia and despite a De La Rosa throwing error on a DiChiara ground ball to third, Pierce retired Bruggeman on a pop-up to second.

Bo Bonds put up a scoreless eighth by stranding a one-out Rios single to left at second after a wild pitch by striking out the side. His strikeout victims were Vera, McCroskey and Wallace with McCroskey caught looking.

The Vancouver Canadians are off on Monday but continue their homestand against the Eugene Emerals. Pat Gallagher is scheduled to throw the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Eric Gagne will be at The Nat to sign autographs. The game will be broadcast on CanadiansBaseball.com and MiLB.TV.
