The Vancouver Canadians 2022 schedule is out – let the countdown begin.
Provided the US/Canada border will be open and there’s not a 20th wave of the pandemic, the C’s are set to play a real home opener at Nat Bailey Stadium against the Eugene Emeralds on Tuesday, April 19. It will mark 963 days from the last time Monty’s Mounties played at the Nat which was August 30, 2019.
Vancouver will open its 132-game fixture with a three-game series in Spokane on Friday, April 8. One would have thought the schedule makers would have had Vancouver open its season at home but I guess they figured the fans could wait 11 more days.
After the three-game series in Eastern Washington, the six-game series format kicks back for a second straight season save for the C’s making another three-game visit to Spokane July 22-24 after a four-day break in the schedule.
Also for the second straight year, the Canadians will have Mondays off save for July 4 when they open a six-game series in Everett. The two teams will have July 5 off before resuming play July 6. Vancouver will be at home for Canada Day Friday, July 1 when Spokane is in town. The C’s will end the season at home when they host Eugene September 6-11.
The Canadians will hopefully get to host the Hillsboro Hops at the Nat and not call Ron Tonkin Field (as nice a field it is) ever again. The first time the Hops are scheduled to head north of the border is July 12-17, just before the four-day break.
The C’s will play Eugene and Hillsboro 30 times each this season and face Spokane, Tri-City and Everett 24 times apiece. The schedule is a little more balanced compared to 2021 as Vancouver and Everett played each other a whopping 36 times.
April 19, 2022 cannot get here soon enough. Just 218 days to go.
