The Vancouver Canadians were trounced 12-7 by the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium on Thursday.

The Dust Devils left no doubt who was going to win with a seven-run second inning. Werner Blakely singled to right field off C’s starter Connor O’Halloran to open the second inning and stole second base. Caleb Pendleton doubled to right and Andy Blake singled to center to score Blakely. A Jadiel Sánchez groundout to second scored Pendleton and Tri-City was off to the races. Jorge Ruiz scored Blake on a throwing error by Jackson Hornung at first. Kevin Bruggeman grounded out to third but Cam Williams—who reached base earlier with a walk—came home on an O’Halloran balk. Matt Coutney singled home Ruiz with a single to center. After a Chad Stevens base hit to left, Blakely doubled to center score Coutney and Stevens. Rafael Ohashi had to get the final out of the second.
The Canadians answered back with a three-run top of the third against Dust Devils starter Jorge Macheco. Two walks by Nick Goodwin and Je’Von Ward started the inning and a Hornung fly out to center got Goodwin to third. An infield single to short by Dylan Rock brought home Goodwin with the first Vancouver run. Robert Brooks and Jommer Hernández both singled to right with the latter knock scoring Ward and Rock. Estiven Machado walked to load the bases with one out but the C’s could not score as Jean Arnaez flew out to left and Marcos De La Rosa struck out.
Tri-City scored again in the fourth off Ohashi. Ruiz reached on an infield single to second, swiped second, got to third on a Bruggeman groundout to third and scored on a Stevens double to right. Stevens got to third on a disengagement violation by Ohashi and scored on a base rap to right by Blakely to make it a 9-3 lead for the Dust Devils.
In the top of the fifth, the C’s forced Macheco’s exit from the game after Hernández singled to left and Machado walked. One out later, De La Rosa hit a two-run double to left off Tri-City reliever Leonard Garcia.
The Dust Devils would pour it on again in the bottom of the fifth. A Blake infield single to second raced home on a Sánchez triple to right to help the Dust Devils reach double digits. Johnathan Lavallee took over with one out in the fifth but was roughed up as well. A Ruiz grounder to short scored Sánchez before back-to-back doubles to right and left by Bruggeman and Coutney gave Tri-City an even dozen on the scoreboard.
The Canadians scored the last two runs of the game in the eighth. Nick Goodwin singled to center off Garcia and Hornung introduced Willian Suarez to the game with a base knock to left. A wild pitch and a two-out walk to Brooks loaded the bases brought Hernández to the plate and he singled up the gut to score Goodwin and Hornung.
