Kacy Clemens had a double, a triple and two runs batted in against Boise Saturday.
The Boise Hawks snapped the Vancouver Canadians‘ six-game winning streak with an 11-3 victory at Boise Memorial Stadium Saturday. That was the C’s first loss of this seven game road trip that began with two wins in Spokane and two more in Boise before Saturday’s setback.
After a two-out double by Cullen Large was stranded in the top of the first, the Hawks went to work against C’s starter Jose Espada with a triple by Bret Boswell, a double by Sean Bouchard and a single by Danny Edgeworth to plate two runs. Boise would tack on two more in the third when Ryan Metzler singled home a bunt single by Steven Linkous before Edgeworth doubled home Metzler.
The C’s had singles by Bryan Lizardo and Brandon Polizzi over the second and third innings but they were erased on double plays while a Kacy Clemens two-out double in the fourth was stranded.
Chris Hall pitched 2-2/3 innings of relief, giving up one run while striking out three.
Chris Hall relieved Espada and settled things down in the fourth and fifth innings, with Owen Spiwak to throw out Cole Anderson trying to steal second to get out of the fourth and striking out a couple of batters to strand a Linkous leadoff single in the fifth.
After being kept in check by Boise starter Garrett Schilling in the first four innings and George Thanopoulos in the fifth, the C’s got to left Alec Byrd in the fourth when Clemens tripled home a Kevin Vicuna hit by pitch and a Cullen Large single to chop Boise’s lead in half at 4-2. However, Clemens was left at third as Brock Lundquist struck out and Lizardo flied out.
Hall tried to get the C”s back in the dugout in the bottom of the sixth and retired the first two hitters before walking Sam Tidaback and serving up singles to Aubrey McCarty and Anderson to give Boise a three-run lead. Bobby Eveld relieved Hall and needed just one pitch to get an inning-ending flyout to Norberto Obeso in left off the bat of Linkous.
Boise would restore their four-run cushion with a run against Eveld in the fourth on an Edgeworth sacrifice fly to score a Boswell single. The C’s would load up the bases in the eighth on a single by Pruitt, a bunt single by Vicuna and a walk by Large with Vicuna stealing second after advancing Pruitt to third on his bunt. The best Vancouver could do was Pruitt scoring on a double play ball off the bat of Clemens to make it a 6-3 game.
The Hawks salted the game away in the bottom of the eighth when Tidaback took Eveld deep to start the inning before Boswell belted a two-run shot. A wild pitch by Eveld would score Metzler with Boise’s 10th run before Edgeworth would double hom the final run. William Ouellette was needed to get the final out of the eighth. Obeso had a two-out hit in the ninth but that was all the C’s could manage as they lost by a touchdown with a two-point conversion.
Cullen Large was on base three times on Saturday.
Vancouver was 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on. Large, Clemens and Lizardo all had two hits with Large also drawing a walk. They had three stolen bases with Pruitt swiping his eighth, Vicuna his seventh and Spiwak his first.

2013-2014 C’s lefthander Jairo Labourt is taking part in the Futures Game in Miami as part of the All-Star festivities.
Lefthanders Brody Rodning and Jake Fishman have been assigned #35 and #36 respectively according to the team roster.
The C’s continue the series in Boise with games today and Monday with first pitch times of 6:15 pm Pacific Time at CanadiansBaseball.com. Jose Nunez is scheduled to get the start this evening for the C’s. Vancouver still holds a three-game lead over Tri-City for first place in the Northwest League North Division.
